About the Colloquium

BRIEF SUMMARY

The International Colloquium of Gerontology represents a unique and irreplaceable event with the participation of experts from different areas of knowledge to discuss the latest practices and knowledge in the field of aging with special attention to the individual. This multidisciplinary meeting is recognized as a platform for new knowledge and practices, focusing on replicable models to help professionals and no professionals that are caring old adults.


The first International Gerontology Colloquium was hold in Turkey (the Department of Gerontology at Akdeniz University in Turkey) in 2010; the second IGC was developed at UMIT - The Health and Life Sciences University Hall / Tyrol (Austria), the 3rd edition was held at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing at Oxford University; and the 4th one occurred in Brazil, Campus of Ribeirão Preto, USP, sponsored by the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (FMRP) and the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA).

The V International Colloquium of Gerontology will focus on socio-demographic effects of ageing in the context of family changes. The contributions of the participants will offer an overview of the socio-demographic trends in Europe with a special mention to the case of Spain, in Latin America (LA) and all over the world. They will discuss about Global ageing and the role of families; The Study of the quality of life in the process of aging. The North and the South perspectives; Changes in the family and The crises in the abilities of older women; Caring for elderly high dependence and impact on the family; Family celebrations from a socio-economic perspective; Intergenerational relations in urban renewal area.

The event will feature international and national speakers from different areas of knowledge, having as main characteristic the interdisciplinary focus. The scientific papers presented in this event will be published in a high impact scientific journal.
